Langtang Goshainkunda Trekking

Langtang Goshainkunda Trekking is another popular trekking in Langtang Region. You will get an opportunity to visit Langtang Valley as well as Goshainkunda during this trek. Well, Langtang valley is famous as the valley of glaciers and you will get close up of views of Langtang Lirung (7246m) and glaciers and grassy down and meadows.

In fact, Goshainkunda is one of the holy mountain lakes at the altitude of 4380m from the sea level. And Goshainkunda is sacred for both Hindus and Buddhists. They gather around this area every year especially on full-moon of the August. Well, there’s a belief that if they take bath in this lake, they will be free from all the sins done during that year. Actually, both Hindus and Buddhists visit this lake once in a life. It takes about 45 minutes to circumambulate Goshainkunda Lake.

We begin this trek from the morning drive to Syabrubeshi from Kathmandu and it takes around eight hours. First of all, you will follow the route to Langtang Valley and Kyanjin Gompa and then you take half of the previous route and divert to the way to Goshainkunda. After visiting Goshainkunda Lake, we will return back to Dhunche and drive back to Kathmandu.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu

Upon your arrival in Tribhuvan International Airport (Kathmandu), our representatives from Motherland Hike Team will welcome you and transfer you to the hotel.

Day 02: Kathmandu Valley Sightseeing

Today, you will visit main places of Kathmandu valley. In the morning you visit Pashupatinath, Bauddhanath, and Swayambhunath. Pashupatinath is the oldest Hindu temple, Bauddhanath Stupa and Swayambhunath Stupa are the oldest Buddhist Stupas. After launch you visit Kathmandu durbar square and Patan durbar square. In Kathmandu durbar square, you visit Kumari temple, the temple of Living goddess.

Day 03: Drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubeshi

After morning breakfast we drive out along the north-western hills of Kathmandu. We will enjoy the Himlayan views and mountainous lifestyle through the terraced fields and rustic villages. We will take Lunch at the Trishuli Bazar before continuing further to Dhunche. From Dhunche, we then descend down to Syabrubesi. We will stay overnight at Syabrubesi.

Day 04: Trek from Syabrubeshi to Lama Hotel

Well, this is going to be our first day of trekking today.  We will follow the Langtang Khola River. Then, we pass through the dense forests crossing several suspension bridges. We also pass by a tea houses.  Our trail then goes up and down but it’s not that challenging. We will reach Lama Hotel and stay there overnight.

Day 05: Trek from Lama Hotel to Langtang Valley

After taking morning breakfast, we will start our second day of the journey. Well, our trail continues along dense forests. After making a steady climb up through the valley, we leave the tree line behind us. We will enjoy the marvelous views of Langtang Lirung.  And we will pass by water mills, prayer wheels, chortens, with sacred mounds of rocks with inscriptions carved on them. We will stay overnight at Langtang valley.

Day 06: Trek from Langtang Valley to Kyanjin Gompa

After taking morning tea and breakfast, we get out of the Kyanjin village and pass on through yak pastures. We will also pass the largest mani wall in Nepal made from stone with prayers written on them. The prayers written on the mani wall is supposed to be blown away by the wind.  We then cross several of the wooden bridges.  Since, we are really getting into the high altitudes you might start feeling the thin air. Kyanjin Gompa is surrounded by the Himalayas all around. You can take a walk around Kanjin Gompa enjoying the views, glaciers, icefalls, birds and yaks.

Day 07: Explore around Kyanjin Gompa and climb to Tsego Ri

This morning, you will explore around the natural beauties of Kyanjin Gompa. In the morning, if you are interested, the guide will take you to climb Tsego Ri (5150m). Then, you will visit Langtang glacier and Langshikha which is a beautiful yak pasture land. We will get back to the same lodge at Kyanjin for overnight stay.

Day 08: Trek back from Kyanjin Gompa to Ghoda Tabela

This morning you retrace your steps to Ghoda Tabela. The walking will be pleasant and scenic one. We will stay overnight at lodge.

Day 09: Trek from Ghoda Tabela to Bamboo

Today you walk down to Bamboo via Lama Hotel through rhododendron forest and along with Bhotekoshi River. We will stay overnight at lodge at Bamboo.

Day 10: Trek from Bamboo to Thulosyabru

Today, we will continue retracing our steps some of the way to Thulo Syabru. And after ascending a steep path through forests you will see a view of Thulosyabru village and its extensive area of millet terraces. Well, an undulating path brings you to this fascinating village where each house is set above its neighbor in a long line up the very crest of the ridge. You will be able to catch the glimpses of Tamang life admiring the beautifully carved wooden windows. We will stay overnight at the lodge at Thulosyabru.

Day 11: Trek from Thulosyabru to Singgompa

From Thulosyabru, it is a steep climb through forests of oak and rhododendron to the top of a ridge. Then, from here it is only a short descent to Sing Gompa. There is a Buddhist monastery and a small cheese factory. We will stay overnight at Singgompa.

Day 12: Trek from Singgompa to Goshainkunda

After breakfast you ascends mountain flank gently with bare trees. And after crossing the ridge you will be going through a forest full of moss and fern. While you reach to Lauribinayak, you can have spectacular views of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Ganesh Himal and Langtang Lirung. The best view point for entire trek. Crossing over the ridge of Saraswati Kunda appear the first of several Lakes dedicated to different divinities. Goshaikunda is the third lake which is the sacred place for both Hindus and Buddhist. We will stay overnight at Goshainkunda.

Day 13: Trek from Goshainkunda to Dhunche

Today, you trek back down direct to Dhunche. It takes 5 hours to reach Dhunche from Goshainkunda. Different trail direct down to Dhunche. We will be following the path between forest and only few houses via Singgompa crossing the river. We will stay overnight at Dhunche.

Day 14: Drive back to Kathmandu from Dhunche

After breakfast we drive back to Kathmandu. Arriving Kathmandu, transfer to your hotel. Spend the day leisurely or catch up on some last minute shopping or explore any sights you missed during your first day in Kathmandu. We will celebrate the farewell dinner in the dinner.

Day 15: Final Departure

You are saying good bye to the Kathmandu as your journey in Nepal comes to an end today! We will transfer you to the airport for your returning flight.
