Langtang Ganja-La Pass Trekking

Langtang Ganja-La Pass Trekking takes you to the famous Langtang region and the Ganja La Pass (5122m). You will be spending amazing 15 days in of your life in Nepal during Langtang Ganja-La Pass Trek. During this trek, we can also make an excursion to Tsergo Ri at the altitude of 5000m. Well, Tsergo Ri offers you tremendous views of Langtang range. This trek lets you experience the lush green forests of rhododendron and bamboo, majestic waterfalls and snow-capped mountains.

Our trek to Langtang Ganja-La pass starts with our bus ride from Kathmandu to Syabrubeshi. After that, our actual trek begins from Syabrubeshi via Kyanjin Gompa following the trail to cross mighty Ganja La Pass and finally ends at Melamchi Pul Bazaar in the Helambu region. We will be trekking through some beautiful rice terraces and number of splendid Buddhist monasteries around the delightful villages of Tarkeghyang and Sermathang by the end of our trek and before we start heading back to Kathmandu.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu

Upon your arrival in Tribhuvan International Airport (Kathmandu), our representatives from Motherland Hike Team will welcome you and transfer you to the hotel.

Day 02: Kathmandu Valley Sightseeing

Today, you will visit main places of Kathmandu valley. In the morning you visit Pashupatinath, Bauddhanath, and Swayambhunath. Pashupatinath is the oldest Hindu temple, Bauddhanath Stupa and Swayambhunath Stupa are the oldest Buddhist Stupas. After launch you visit Kathmandu durbar square and Patan durbar square. In Kathmandu durbar square, you visit Kumari temple, the temple of Living goddess.

Day 03: Drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubeshi

After morning breakfast we drive out along the north-western hills of Kathmandu. We will enjoy the Himlayan views and mountainous lifestyle through the terraced fields and rustic villages. We will take Lunch at the Trishuli Bazar before continuing further to Dhunche. From Dhunche, we then descend down to Syabrubesi. We will stay overnight at Syabrubesi.

Day 04: Trek from Syabrubeshi to Lama Hotel

Well, this is going to be our first day of trekking today.  We will follow the Langtang Khola River. Then, we pass through the dense forests crossing several suspension bridges. We also pass by a tea houses.  Our trail then goes up and down but it’s not that challenging. We will reach Lama Hotel and stay there overnight.

Day 05: Trek from Lama Hotel to Langtang Valley

After taking morning breakfast, we will start our second day of the journey. Well, our trail continues along dense forests. After making a steady climb up through the valley, we leave the tree line behind us. We will enjoy the marvelous views of Langtang Lirung.  And we will pass by water mills, prayer wheels, chortens, with sacred mounds of rocks with inscriptions carved on them. We will stay overnight at Langtang valley.

Day 06: Trek from Langtang Valley to Kyanjin Gompa

After taking morning tea and breakfast, we get out of the Kyanjin village and pass on through yak pastures. We will also pass the largest mani wall in Nepal made from stone with prayers written on them. The prayers written on the mani wall is supposed to be blown away by the wind.  We then cross several of the wooden bridges.  Since, we are really getting into the high altitudes you might start feeling the thin air. Kyanjin Gompa is surrounded by the Himalayas all around. You can take a walk around Kanjin Gompa enjoying the views, glaciers, icefalls, birds and yaks.

Day 07: Explore around Kyanjin Gompa and climb to Tsego Ri

This morning, you will explore around the natural beauties of Kyanjin Gompa. In the morning, if you are interested, the guide will take you to climb Tsego Ri (5150m). Then, you will visit Langtang glacier and Langshikha which is a beautiful yak pasture land. We will get back to the same lodge at Kyanjin for overnight stay.

Day 08: Trek from Kyanjin Gompa to Ganja La Phedi: 6 hours

Taking today’s breakfast, we embark on our today’s journey to Ganja La Phedi. Cross the Langtang River. Ascend through rhododendron forests. Since, we’re already in high altitude, the time for getting to our destination also depends upon the season of the trek. Since, during the winter snow, it might take longer time to cross the snow strewn path.

Day 09: Cross the Ganja La Pass (5122m) and trek to Keldang: 7 hours

Today we cross the Ganja La pass. It’d be a strenuous day since Ganja La is one of the difficult passes.   Ganja la pass is covered with snow almost throughout the year. Make the long ascent through the boulders, pass the small lakes, and summit the Ganja La which situated on a rocky moraine. Enjoy the spectacular views from the pass. Climbing up and down the pass can sometimes be tricky due to snowfall and ice.  From the pass, we descend down to Keldang.

Day 10: Trek from Keldang to Yak Kharka 6 hours

Trek from Keldang to Yak Kharka. From Keldang, we descend further down following a prominent ridge line. In our about six hours trek today, we continue losing our altitude through forests, ridges, and grasslands.

Day 11: Trek from Yak Kharka to Tarkeghyang: 6 hours

Today, we descend down to Melamchi River. We cross the river and climb up to Tarkeghyang through Sherpa settlements. Tarkeghyang is a beautiful Sherpa village with one of the oldest and biggest monasteries.

Day 12: Trek from Tarkeghyang to Sermathang: 4 hours

Today, we will trek from Tarkeghyang to Shermathang (2590m). Trekking today is comparatively easier than the previous days as the trail goes through flat land with beautiful forests. On the way, we would penetrate the village called Shermathang where we would visit some ancient monasteries. We will stay overnight at Sermathang.

Day 13: Trek from Sermathang to Melamchi Pul Bazaar

Today we trek from Shermathang to Melamchi. The trail gradually descends all the way to Melamchi Pul Bazaar through meadows ad cultivated fields. On the way, we come across several villages. En route, we would interact with the local people and know their culture and way of life. We will stay at the guesthouse in Melamchi Bazaar.

Day 14: Drive to Kathmandu

Today, from Melamchi Pul Bazaar, we drive to Kathmandu. The road is graveled and bumpy till Lamidanda and then we will have pitched road up to Kathmandu.

Day 15: Final Departure

You are saying good bye to the Kathmandu as your journey in Nepal comes to an end today! We will transfer you to the airport for your returning flight.
