Dhaulagiri Round Trekking
Trekking in Dhaulagiri provides massive mountains range of Dhaulagiri consisting of fifteen 7000 meter peaks is magnificent. Trekking of the main paths is not only possible, but can be immensely rewarding, though you do need a sense of adventure and an increased ability to deal with unexpected. Geographically, it is a land of dramatic contrast. Trekking around the giant Himalayan Peak Dhaulagiri (8th highest Himalayan Peaks of the world) is one of the most challenging treks. The trek goes through big challenging mountain passes, crossing over French pass (5360 meter) and Thapa Pass (5200 meter); It is a challenging walk on an icy track. Dhaulagiri means “white mountain” though many mountains over the world have names which translate to white mountain, this is without doubt the most astonishing one.
GENERAL ITINERARY
Day 01: Drive from Kathmandu to Beni by bus (9 hours driving).
Day 02: Trek to Babiyachaour.
Day 03: Trek to Darbang.
Day 04: Trek to Takum.
Day 05: Trek to Muri.
Day 06: Trek to Boghara.
Day 07: Trek to Doban.
Day 08: Trek to Italian Base Camp.
Day 09: Acclimatization day at Italian Base Camp.
Day 10: Trek to Dhaulagiri Base Camp.
Day 11: Trek to Hidden Valley (5000m.) crossing French Pass (5360m.).
Day 12: Rest day at Hidden Valley.
Day 13: Trek to Yak Kharka crossing the Thapa Pass (5200m).
Day 14: Trek down to Tukuche.
Day 15: Trek to Ghasa.
Day 16: Trek to Tatopani.
Day 17: Rest day at Tatopani (Natural hot spring).
Day 18: Trek to Ghorepani.
Day 19: Trek to Tikedhunga.
Day 20: Trek to Nayapul (4 hours), then drive to Pokhara.
Details Itinerary
Day 01: Arrive in Kathmandu and be driven to your Hotel
Day 02: Full day spent doing a Kathmandu Valley tour
Day 03: Transported by bus from Kathmandu to Pokhara and on to Beni (1000m). This will take about 8 hours to reach the lodge.
Day 04: Beni to Babichaur (1050m). This takes about 5 hours of hiking to reach the camp. After leaving the Kali Gandaki River you enter in the Myagdi Khola Valley.
Day 05: Babichoaur to Dharapani Phedi (1250m). The trek continues about 4 hours before you reach camp
Day 06: Dharapani Phedi to Sibang (1850m). Day 6 takes about 6 hours to hike to camp
Day 07: Sibang to Dobang (1800m) 5 hours to reach camp
Day 08: Takes you from Dobang to Bagar (2100m). You will be hiking for 5 hours before you reach camp
Day 09: Bagar to Dovan (2500m) Todays hike will be 6 hours
Day 10: Dovan to Sallaghari (3100m) 5 hours of hiking to reach camp
Day 11: Sallaghari to Italian Base Camp (4000m). Day 11 will be 4 hours of trekking to get to your next camp – Italian Base Camp. You will pass through beautiful forest while rapidly gain altitude into the mountains.
Day 12: Today you will rest and get acclimated in the Italian Base Camp.
Day 13: After a day of rest you will depart the Italian Base Camp and continue on to the Dhaulagiri Base Camp (4900m) . This will take about 5 hours. The rough rubble will give way to smooth ice of white glaciers. You’ll climb steadily to the rough and chilling but spectacular Dhaulagiri Base Camp
Day 14: Dhaulagiri Base Camp the French Pass (5300m) and continuing to French Phedi (4900m). This will take approximately 6 hours. Getting off the glacier above the base camp often requires a rope, but once over the steep moraine walls you’ll be in safer and more gentle country.
Day 15: French Phedi to Thapa Pass (5250m) and on to Kalopani (5000m). Day 15 will be about 6 hours of trekking to reach camp
Day 16: Kalopani to Marpha (2667m) Approximately 6 hours of trekking to reach the lodge where you will camp
Day 17: Day 17 is a rest day in Marpha (Trek to Jomsom and fly to Pokhara/ Kathmandu on the next day is possible).
Day 18: Marpha to Lete (2438m). 6½ hours of hiking to the lodge. The trek starts from a lovely village of whitewashed houses and fertile fields, and continues down the Kaligandaki reaching the former Thakali trading centre of Tukche.
Day 19: Lete to Tatopani (1189m). 6 hours of trekking to reach the camp. A beautiful with another transition into sub-tropical vegetation and the return of water buffalo, banyan trees and poinsettias. The trail follows the river through a narrow gorge and descends to cross a bridge.
Day 20: Tatopani to Ghorepani (2855m). Steadily climbing all day, you’ll eventually leave behind the terraced fields and walk through thick rhododendron forest to the village of Ghorepani. You’ll camp at the pass for the best views of the sunset. (or trek to Beni and drive to Pokhara and next day drive or fly to Kathmandu is possible).
Day 21: The day starts early in the morning where you will ascend Poonhill (3200m) for a beautiful sunrise and the majestic views of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges, after breakfast proceed to Tadapani (2700m). This will take about 6 hours.
Day 22: Tatopani to Ghandrung (1951m) – 2½ hours. You can visit the Gurung culture museum.
Day 23: Ghandrung to Nayapool (1070m) – 5 hours. You will be driven to Pokhara about 3 hours.
Day 24: You’ll either fly or take the bus from Pokhara to Kathmandu
Day 25: Explore Kathmandu for shopping and other activities
Day 26: Depart to airport.
